the end

August 28th, 2007 (10:28 pm)

I neglected to blog for personal reasons. Also because I didn't know what to say.

Certain things have transpired.

Work is a love/hate relationship. But oh well; it's almost over! I see/witness a lot of strange things at work. A tree branch had nearly fallen on me if it were not for my slow-paced walking at that particular time; Torontonians are weird; dead animals are not as gross any more since I've seen plenty...up close and almost personal. The few roadkills I feel mostly for were those two chipmunks. One, I had mistaken for a patch of rusty brown dirt in the middle of the road. I walked closer and it turned out it was the remnants of a seriously flattened chipmunk, minus its head. The other dead chipmunk I saw, I almost kicked it...I don't know what happened to the poor thing; it's body was intact, though I think I saw a dried pool of blood where its head and concrete met....I guess it had fallen off something? Weird. And sad.

I should have taken a few photos.

I have learned that people can be complete dick-faces. But I also learned who true friends are. I guess it ended up being a blessing in disguise.

First off, congratulations to Anaheim and California, in general. Three straight years where an NHL team becomes the league's number one team in a city/state that could not care less about hockey, defeating a Canadian team. And anything Canada is synonymous with hockey. Gah.

First week of work was the most easiest thing I think I've done in quite a long time. I was paid to study for 7 hours/day. Yesterday, I think I might have destroyed the exams we had to write. At least, I'm pretty sure I destroyed the second exam...not sure of the first. Let's just hope I pass. Meeting some pretty awesome, friendly people. One of the people I've been acquainted with during high school, who I suppose isn't in anyway involved with PH, is also working alongside me. How cool is that? There's a girl at work whom, whenever I look at her, I can't help but think of Claire from Heroes.

They say this world is becoming desensitized to all the tragedy around the world. That may be the case, but it's not true when it hits home. I don't know what to do nor what to say.

Ha! Who would've thought summer would bring on so much stress? I'm pretty sure I did not sign up for this -- oh wait, I did. I have decided, on a whim, that I shall maintain proper English grammar on this blog.

Work (finally) commences next week. Typing that sentence reminds me of the remaining readings I still have yet to complete. In order to continuing working for the duration of the summer months (June through August), I must first go through necessary/required training and then endure a subsequent exam. Fun times. I think.

I'm not too sure what to do with Sunday School. It also starts very soon -- actually, in a few days. I'm hoping the class will be a talkative group. I'm none too keen on a given 'structure'; rather, I feel for more of an open forum to discuss stuff. Hey God, please be my guide.

I recently was at Toys 'R' Us and I happened upon the new Transformers movie-line toys. The store was only selling the 6-inch (I guesstimate) figures. Not exactly what I was hoping for, but I was surprised to see them on the shelves. I thought the toys were coming out on June 2nd...or maybe that's Wal-Mart.

I think I'm excited for the movie, but as of late, movies that I was excited for (and actually paid too much for to watch in the theatres, instead of waiting for online streaming...) have left me pretty disappointed. Case in point: X3 The Last Stand and Spiderman 3. It's always those trilogy-series movies that go down the drain after the first installment. It's a Matrix curse! Ha. And that's why I avoided Pirates of the Caribbean's two latest releases. So I don't know. I figure I'll watch the Transformers movie (but it's Michael Bay producing...) and The Simpsons' silver screen debut, but based solely on principle. It just sucks that Mr. Bay envisions the "modern day" Transformers to be some mash up between Gundam and Evangelion. Needless to say, when I saw the initial leaked images from the movie production studios, I was a bit disappointed. C'mon! Bumblebee as a Camaro? But the toy (dubbed "Ultimate Bumblebee") looks amazing. I feel like resurrecting my random toys collection, but this little big guy will most likely be too hefty in its price point.

Anyways, as work (hopefully) progresses along during the summer, I suppose I will make my musings public. Ironic.

As summer continues its merry way, I realize that this summer break hasn't much "break" involved. First off there is softball which takes up the majority of my weekends. There is also softball devotions that I am assisting in, something I've never done before. Then comes work, which starts on the first week of June; I need to write and pass two exams on June 8th in order to continuing working. I also really need to buckle down and start my readings. Last but not least, I have Sunday School to teach. Don't get me wrong, I am looking forward to the challenges that comes with all this, but it just feels different knowing that I have all these responsibilities during my summer.

NBA playoffs...I don't really watch them anymore now that the Raptors and Suns are out. NHL playoffs is down to its final series with the two remaining teams vying for Lord Stanley. I wanted a full out Canadian battle for the Cup, but it is not to be. From the 15 teams in the Western Conference, only Anaheim remains standing; Ottawa's left from the East. So make it three straight seasons that a Canadian team has found themselves on the brink of hockey's utter glory. The past two seasons, Calgary Flames (2003-2004) and Edmonton Oilers (2005-2006) [NHL lockout in the 2004-2005 season] have bowed down to the Tampa Bay Lightning (2003-2004) and Carolina Hurricanes (2005-2006) in seven games. As much as I do not cheer for Ottawa, they really have grabbed this country by its throat, just like Calgary and Edmonton did on their run for the Cup; the only difference is Calgary and Edmonton did it in more dramatic fashion, especially Edmonton who had started out as the last placed team to start the playoffs. Ottawa has more or less just rolled along, defeating first Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils, and most recently, the top team in the NHL, Buffalo Sabers, all with a commanding series win of 4-1 in a best of 7. So the Sens are on quite a tear, boasting a 12-3 record in the NHL's second season. Throughout this year's playoffs, there hasn't been a series that was really fun to watch. The only good one was Ottawa vs. Buffalo, due to a really lackluster performance last year by the Sens (so this time around, they were looking for redemption) and the rivalry that was building up during the past two seasons. And ultimately, the Buffalo Sabers had nothing to show for it.

I guess I'm excited for the Finals, but I don't know which team to cheer for. I want a Canadian team to win the Cup (the last Canadian team to do so was the '93 Habs) but...it's Ottawa. What hockey person from Toronto, in their right mind, would cheer for Ottawa? I guess I will cheer for Ottawa because of my desire for Canada to bring the Stanley Cup back where it belongs, but in the very end, it doesn't matter. Both Anaheim or Ottawa deserves to be in the position they're in now.

So yup, that's me this summer. Juggling the responsibilities of work, SS, and softball duties, and kicking back and watching the boob-tube.

Oh, a part of me wants to get the Optimus Prime movie-version toy.
